Manali to Chandratal Lake Bike Tour With Kaza Sightseeing 2026
If your idea of a holiday involves a Royal Enfield, broken mountain roads, and a crescent shaped lake at 4,300 metres with nobody around, this is your trip. The Manali to Chandratal Lake bike tour package is a 6 day guided motorcycle tour that takes you from Manali through the Atal Tunnel, across the wild Lahaul terrain, over Kunzum Pass at 4,590 metres, into the heart of Spiti Valley at Kaza, and then to an overnight camp at Chandratal Lake before riding back to Manali. It is the most complete Chandratal bike trip from Manali you can do without needing a ten day leave from work.
This is not a template itinerary with a bike bolted on. This is a real Chandratal Lake motorcycle tour built around actual riding conditions on the Manali to Kaza route, with a night halt in Sissu for proper acclimatisation, two full days in and around Kaza to explore the high altitude villages and monasteries, and a dedicated camping night at the Moon Lake. You ride a Royal Enfield with fuel included, your luggage goes in a support vehicle, an experienced ride captain leads the group, and an on road mechanic rides alongside for anything that goes wrong. The stretch between Gramphu and Batal is among the most demanding and rewarding riding roads in India. And the night at Chandratal, under a sky with more stars than you thought possible, is why people keep coming back to Spiti year after year.

Frequently Asked Questions
What Is the Best Time for This Manali to Chandratal Bike Tour?
The riding season runs from mid June to late September. Kunzum Pass and the Chandratal access road open depending on annual snow clearance, typically by mid to late June. July and August are the most reliable months with the best road access. September offers clearer skies, fewer crowds, and excellent visibility, but the nights are significantly colder. Early June and October are risky — roads may still be blocked or closing for the season.
How Hard Is This Ride? What Riding Experience Do I Need?
You need a valid driving licence and real confidence on a motorcycle. The Gramphu to Batal stretch includes gravel, broken tarmac, water crossings, loose rocks, and steep inclines at altitude where the air is thin. If you have ridden comfortably in the mountains before — Ladakh, Uttarakhand hill roads, Western Ghats hairpins — you will be fine. If this is your first ever mountain ride, this is not the right trip to start with. We are happy to recommend shorter, more beginner friendly routes to build experience first.
Why Is There a Night Halt at Sissu? Can We Skip It and Go Directly to Kaza?
No, and here is why. Manali sits at 2,050 metres. Kaza is at 3,650 metres. Kunzum Pass, which you cross to reach Kaza, is at 4,590 metres. Going directly from Manali to Kaza means your body jumps from 2,050 metres to over 4,500 metres in a single day. That is how altitude sickness, headaches, nausea, and ruined trips happen. The night at Sissu at 3,100 metres gives your body a crucial intermediate step to adjust. It is not a wasted day. It is the day that makes the rest of the trip possible.
Do I Need My Own Bike or Do You Provide Bikes?
No, and here is why. Manali sits at 2,050 metres. Kaza is at 3,650 metres. Kunzum Pass, which you cross to reach Kaza, is at 4,590 metres. Going directly from Manali to Kaza means your body jumps from 2,050 metres to over 4,500 metres in a single day. That is how altitude sickness, headaches, nausea, and ruined trips happen. The night at Sissu at 3,100 metres gives your body a crucial intermediate step to adjust. It is not a wasted day. It is the day that makes the rest of the trip possible.
Is Chandratal Camping Guaranteed on Every Departure?
Chandratal camping depends entirely on road and weather conditions. Kunzum Pass and the Chandratal access road must be clear and safe for the campsite to operate. If conditions are unsafe on the day of your visit, we reroute and adjust the plan — safety always comes first. Our ride captain makes the final call based on real time ground conditions and our local support network’s input.
How Cold Does It Get? What Temperatures Should I Expect?
Manali in summer: 15 to 30 degrees Celsius daytime. Sissu: 10 to 20 degrees daytime, 5 to 10 degrees at night. Kaza daytime: 10 to 20 degrees. Kaza nights: 0 to 5 degrees. Chandratal at night: near freezing to below zero, even in July and August. Wind chill makes it feel colder. Thermals, a warm jacket, thick socks, and proper gloves for the camping night are absolutely essential.
What About Fuel? Where Is the Last Petrol Pump?
The last reliable fuel station is in Manali. There is no petrol pump between Manali and Kaza. Kaza has a pump but it is often unreliable or out of stock during peak season. We carry spare fuel in the support vehicle for the group. If riding your own bike, carry a 5 litre jerry can — this is not optional, it is essential.
Will My Phone Work on This Route?
Manali has full network. Signal gets patchy inside the Atal Tunnel and drops completely after Gramphu. No network at Batal, Chandratal, or most of the route between Gramphu and Kaza. Kaza has limited BSNL and Jio coverage. Let your family know you will be unreachable for stretches of 12 to 24 hours on this trip. Download offline maps before leaving Manali.
What Happens If My Bike Breaks Down During the Ride?
Our on road mechanic travels with the group. The support vehicle carries tools, spare parts (clutch cables, brake levers, tubes, chain links), and basic repair equipment. Punctures, loose chains, cable snaps, and minor electrical issues are fixed on the spot. If a bike cannot be repaired on the road, we shift you to the support vehicle and arrange a replacement or repair at the next town. You will not be left stranded.
Can Pillion Riders Join This Tour?
Yes. Pillion riders are welcome and pricing for pillion riders is different from solo rider pricing. Contact us for exact rates. Keep in mind that pillion riding on the Gramphu to Batal stretch and the Chandratal access road can be physically demanding due to rough terrain, vibration, and long hours on the seat. Pillion riders should be fit, comfortable, and aware of what this ride involves.
What If Roads Close Due to Landslides or Sudden Weather?
It happens. Landslides, flash floods, sudden snowfall, and road closures are part of mountain riding in Spiti. We prioritise safety above everything else. If a section of the route is blocked, our ride captain adjusts the itinerary in real time based on ground reports. All changes are communicated to the group with full transparency.
Is Travel From Delhi to Manali Included?
No. This package starts and ends in Manali. However, we can arrange overnight Volvo or traveller from Delhi to Manali and back at extra cost. Let us know at the time of booking and we will add it to your package with confirmed seats.
How Much Does This Bike Tour Package Cost?
