Frequently Asked Questions
What Is the Best Time for This Chandratal and Spiti Summer Tour?
The ideal window is mid June through early October. Kunzum Pass and the Chandratal camping zone open once snow clears, usually by the second or third week of June. July and August are warm but occasional afternoon rain is possible. September offers the clearest skies, golden light, and fewer crowds.
Is Chandratal Camping Guaranteed on This Trip?
Chandratal camping depends on road and weather conditions at the time of travel. Kunzum Pass and the Chandratal access road must be clear for the campsite to operate. If conditions are unsafe, we reroute and adjust the plan around the best available alternative. Safety always comes first.
Where Exactly Is the Chandratal Camp Located?
Camping happens at the designated camping zone approximately one kilometre from Chandratal Lake. This is the only area where camping is permitted by the Himachal Pradesh Forest Department. The lake itself is visited on foot from the campsite. Camping directly at the lakeshore is not allowed to protect the ecosystem.
Is This Spiti Circuit Suitable for First Time Travellers?
Yes. The route is specifically designed with gradual altitude gain, entering from the Shimla and Kinnaur side rather than going directly to high altitude from Manali. This gives your body time to acclimatise naturally. There is no intense trekking involved. The drives are long on some days, but the pace is manageable for anyone reasonably fit.
How Cold Does It Get at Chandratal and Kaza During Summer?
Daytime temperatures in Kaza during summer range from 10 to 20 degrees Celsius. Nights can drop to 0 to 5 degrees. At Chandratal (4,300 metres), expect near freezing or sub zero temperatures at night even in July and August. Warm layers, thermals, and a good jacket are essential for the camping night.
What About Mobile Network and ATM Availability in Spiti?
Mobile network is limited and patchy beyond Kaza. BSNL and Jio work in parts, but do not rely on connectivity at Chandratal, Kunzum, or the remote villages. ATMs exist in Kaza but can be unreliable. Carry enough cash for personal expenses. UPI may work in Kaza town but not at higher stops.
Do You Provide Oxygen Support?
Yes. An emergency oxygen cylinder is carried in the vehicle on every departure as a safety precaution. The charge applies only if the cylinder is actually used. It is not a substitute for professional medical treatment.
What Happens If Kunzum Pass or Chandratal Access Is Not Safe?
In summer, Kunzum is generally open from mid June to early October. However, if snow, landslides, or BRO maintenance block the route, we reroute through the safest available alternative and adjust the itinerary. Our team communicates all changes to the group with full transparency.
Can Solo Travellers Join This Tour?
Yes. This is a group departure format and solo travellers are welcome. You join other travellers on the same fixed dates. Triple sharing keeps costs affordable, and the group format means you are never alone on the road.
How Much Does This Chandratal Tour Package Cost?
The starting price is ₹16,999 per person on triple sharing basis with Tempo Traveller transport. Double sharing is available at a higher price. Contact us with your group size and preferred dates for an exact quote.
