Overview

A Spiti Valley Circuit Tour done properly is a very different trip from the rushed 8 day version most operators sell. Same route, same villages, same passes, but when you stretch the same circuit across 12 days with base stays, rest days, and a buffer day, the whole experience changes. Drives stop feeling like a chore, your body has real time to adjust to altitude, and you get to spend evenings in Kalpa, Tabo and Kaza instead of just sleeping there before the next early morning start.

This 11 Nights 12 Days itinerary runs the complete Shimla to Manali Spiti circuit at a peaceful pace. You enter from the Shimla side for gradual acclimatisation, take two night halts at every major base, have a full buffer day in Kaza, cross Kunzum Pass only after a week above 3,000 metres, and spend a proper overnight at Chandratal instead of a rushed afternoon visit. By the time you exit through Manali, you’ve actually seen Spiti, not just driven past it.

Whether you are planning a Spiti Valley full circuit package with friends, a Spiti circuit tour from Delhi with family, or a complete Spiti Valley tour from Chandigarh with a private group, this itinerary is built around the idea that a good trip is measured in how rested you feel at the end of it. Oxygen cylinder available in the cab throughout the trip. Charged only if used.

Afternoon drive into Pin Valley up to Mudh village, a completely different landscape from the rest of Spiti. Back to Kaza. Night stay: Kaza (3,650 m)

Day 10: Buffer Day in Kaza

A full buffer day kept empty on purpose. If weather shifts, you rest. If a road opens late, you wait without panic. If everyone is feeling great, we use this day for a deeper Pin Valley visit, or a quiet monastery morning, or simply a do nothing day with coffee and a book. This buffer is why the circuit feels peaceful and not like a checklist. Night stay: Kaza (3,650 m)

Day 11: Kaza → Kunzum Pass → Chandratal

Morning start across Losar and Kunzum Pass (4,590 m). Proper photo and chai stop at the top. Continue down to the Chandratal base, with camp check in by afternoon. Short easy walk to the lake itself for sunset. Dinner at camp, early night under the stars. By this point you have been above 3,000 m for a week, so Chandratal’s altitude is no longer a surprise to your body. Night stay: Chandratal base camp (4,200 m)

Day 12: Chandratal → Manali → Chandigarh / Delhi Drop

Sunrise at the lake, early breakfast, and descent to Manali via Batal and Gramphu. Reach Manali by afternoon. Continue to Chandigarh by night, or Delhi by next morning if Delhi drop is selected. Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Spiti Valley Circuit Tour and how is this 12 day version different?
A full circuit means entering from Shimla and exiting from Manali (or vice versa), covering both Kinnaur and Lahaul along with the core Spiti region, including Kunzum Pass and Chandratal. Most operators do this in 8 or 9 days. This 12 day version stretches the same circuit with two night base stays, rest days and a buffer day, which makes the trip peaceful instead of punishing.
Is this Shimla to Manali Spiti circuit suitable for first timers?
Yes, and in many ways it is the best version for first timers. Entering from the Shimla side gives your body a week to adjust gradually before Kunzum, the base stays reduce fatigue, and the buffer day covers you for any weather or road surprises. Most first time travellers feel the pace is genuinely comfortable.
When is the Spiti Valley full circuit package operational?
The full circuit is usually open from late June to mid October, depending on when Rohtang, Kunzum Pass and the Chandratal road clear up each year. Before and after this window, the Manali side and Chandratal stay closed, and we run the Shimla to Shimla same route version instead. We confirm the exact dates after checking the current road status.
What is the altitude profile across this circuit?
Shimla 2,200 m → Sarahan 2,100 m → Kalpa 2,960 m → Tabo 3,280 m → Kaza 3,650 m → Kunzum Pass 4,590 m (crossing) → Chandratal camp 4,200 m → Manali 2,050 m. The climb is gradual, which is the whole point of entering from the Shimla side. Kunzum is crossed only on Day 11, after seven nights above 3,000 m.
Do you provide oxygen support on this Spiti circuit tour from Delhi?
Yes. An oxygen cylinder stays in the cab for the full circuit and is charged only if actually used, not otherwise. Drivers are trained to use it and a portable pulse oximeter is available on request. This is standard across every circuit we run.
How are the stays on this complete Spiti Valley tour from Chandigarh?
All hotel stays across Shimla, Sarahan, Kalpa, Tabo and Kaza have attached washrooms, running hot water, proper beds and heating where needed. The only exception is the Chandratal overnight, which is Swiss tents at the base camp with shared washrooms, because there is no permanent construction allowed near the lake. The tents are well insulated, with proper bedding and hot dinner.
Can this 12 day Spiti Valley Circuit Tour be customised for a private group?
Yes. Private groups can request vehicle upgrades, premium stays, additional Pin Valley or Lahaul exploration, a Manali overnight at the end, or specific dietary needs. The 12 day structure is our recommended peaceful version, but we also run the same circuit as a 10 day or 14 day private plan depending on the group. Share your group size, dates and pickup city, and we will send a custom quote within a few hours.
